Tonight, I had the incredible privilege of marching in the Dallas Pride Parade, and I am still trying to find the words to fully capture what the experience meant to me.
Standing among thousands of people, surrounded by a community built on love, resilience, acceptance, and authenticity, was nothing short of inspiring. The energy throughout the evening was electric. Every cheer, every smile, every wave from the crowd served as a reminder that Pride is so much more than a celebration—it is a testament to the strength of a community that has fought tirelessly to be seen, heard, and respected.
As I walked the parade route, I found myself reflecting on my own journey.
Like many people in the LGBTQ+ community, my path has not always been easy. There have been moments of uncertainty, moments of pain, and moments when I questioned where I belonged. Yet tonight, surrounded by thousands of people living openly and proudly as themselves, I was reminded that every challenge, every obstacle, and every lesson helped shape the person I am today.
What struck me most was the overwhelming sense of connection. Complete strangers cheered for one another. Families celebrated together. Friends embraced. For a few hours, differences faded into the background and what remained was a shared commitment to authenticity, acceptance, and community.
This year has already been one of the most remarkable years of my life. The publication of Inheritance of Silence, meeting readers across the country, participating in book signings, and receiving recognition for my work have all been experiences I once only dreamed about. Marching in Dallas Pride tonight felt like another important chapter in that journey.
As an author, I believe stories have the power to create understanding and bring people together. Pride reminds us that every story matters. Every voice matters. Every person deserves the opportunity to live openly and authentically without fear.
Tonight wasn't just about celebrating who we are. It was about honoring those who came before us, supporting those who are still finding their way, and helping build a future where everyone feels they belong.
To everyone who attended, volunteered, performed, organized, or simply showed up to support the community—thank you. You helped create an unforgettable evening filled with joy, hope, and pride.
I am grateful to have been part of it.
Happy Pride, Dallas.
With gratitude,
