When I first sat down to write Inheritance of Silence, I never imagined the journey it would take me on.
What began as a deeply personal story has grown into something much larger than I ever expected. Readers have embraced the novel, reviewers have shared thoughtful feedback, and literary organizations across the country have recognized the work in ways that continue to leave me humbled and grateful.
As we move further into 2026, Inheritance of Silence enters one of the most exciting seasons of its journey: awards season.
Over the next several months, we will learn the results of multiple prestigious literary award programs:
- American Fiction Awards – July 2026
- Shakespeare Global Prize - August 2026
- Storytrade Book Awards – August 2026
- International Impact Book Awards – October 2026
- American Writing Awards – November 2026
Each of these organizations celebrates excellence in storytelling and publishing, and it is an honor to have Inheritance of Silence considered among so many outstanding works.
Of all the recognitions received so far, one continues to feel especially surreal.
I was recently named a Finalist for Author of the Year 2026 in Contemporary Fiction through the International Impact Book Awards. This recognition alone is something I never expected when I first began this publishing journey. To be included among talented authors from around the world is an achievement I will always cherish.
What makes this award especially unique is that readers have an opportunity to participate in the selection process. According to the International Impact Book Awards, public voting contributes to the overall evaluation alongside the judging process, giving readers and supporters an opportunity to help recognize the authors and stories that have made an impact on them.
If Inheritance of Silence has touched you, inspired you, or stayed with you long after you turned the final page, I would be honored to have your support.
Public voting is currently open.

Every vote, every review, every recommendation, every social media share, and every conversation about the book helps bring visibility to stories that matter.
Regardless of what happens in the coming months, I already feel like a winner.
The publication of Inheritance of Silence, the readers who have connected with its message, the opportunities to appear on podcasts, interviews, reading sprints, livestreams, book clubs, and literary events, and the incredible support from friends, fellow authors, and readers have made this one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
As we await the results from the American Fiction Awards, Storytrade Book Awards, International Impact Book Awards, and American Writing Awards, I want to thank everyone who has joined me on this journey.
This story may have begun in silence, but because of you, it continues to be heard.
With gratitude,
John Erik Dunnam
