July 30, 2026
I'm thrilled to share some exciting news with my readers, friends, and supporters!
My debut novel, Inheritance of Silence, has been awarded the 2026 Shakespeare Global Prize for Contemporary Fiction and has also been recognized as the Best Independent Press Title.
Receiving these honors is both humbling and deeply meaningful. When I began writing Inheritance of Silence, my goal was simply to tell an authentic story about identity, resilience, healing, and the transformative power of chosen family. I hoped the novel would resonate with readers on a personal level. To see it now recognized on the international stage is something I never imagined when I first opened a blank document and began writing.
These awards are a testament to the incredible support I have received throughout this journey. To everyone who has purchased the book, attended an event, left a review, recommended it to a friend, or simply offered words of encouragement—thank you. Your belief in this story has helped it reach readers around the world.
As an independently published title, this recognition also highlights the remarkable stories emerging from independent presses and the talented authors they champion. It is an honor to stand among this year's recipients.
This milestone comes during an exciting chapter of my writing career. With House of Windows scheduled for publication on September 11, 2026, several completed manuscripts awaiting publication, and my continued search for literary representation, I am more inspired than ever to keep telling stories that encourage empathy, hope, and authentic human connection.
Thank you for being part of this journey. I am excited for everything that lies ahead and can't wait to share the next chapter with you.
With gratitude,
John Erik Dunnam
